Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and Japan Thursday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, reassessed preparations for the 9th Summit of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), scheduled for August 20-22 in Yokohama, Japan.
According to a press release sent, the ambassadors of the two countries in Ethiopia, Miguel Bembe and Maruyama Norio respectively, discussed the central role of the co-chairs of the meeting, namely João Lourenço, president of Angola and of the African Union (AU) and Shigeru Ishiba, prime minister of Japan.
The Japanese diplomat highlighted the five strategic dimensions of the partnership between the African Union and Japan.
These strategies relate to “supporting economic growth”, “strengthening local industrial capacities to stimulate African exports”, “encouraging social development”, “promoting gender equality and youth participation in economic and social initiatives” and “fostering peace and stability”.
TICAD is made up of representatives of the member states of the African Union and Japan, as well as representatives of the co-organisers, namely the United Nations, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the World Bank and the African Union Commission (AUC).
This partnership, which marks its 32nd anniversary this year, was launched in 1993 by Japan as a mobilization platform to support development in Africa.
TICAD’s role is likely to evolve as Africa strives to achieve its development aspirations, as set out in Agenda 2063, to build resilient economies that attract more private investment.
