Africa-Press – Angola. Angola is developing contacts with the airline “Kenya Airways”, in order to resume passenger flights from Nairobi/Luanda, suspended in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kenya Airways is the national airline of this country and is among the largest on the African continent.

Before the suspension of services, Kenya Airways connected Nairobi and Luanda with a frequency of three times a week, flights lasting about 4 hours.

With the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, for the Angolan ambassador to Kenya, Syanga Abílio, the suspension is no longer justified, after overcoming the questions about airport fees.

“We are maintaining contacts to resume these services”, said the Angolan diplomat who sees the Luanda/Nairobi route as very profitable, therefore, a challenge that Angolan airlines (TAAG) can also embrace.

It was in August 2020 that Kenya Airways announced that it would suspend passenger flights to eight African destinations, because of the pandemic.

At the time, the operator announced that it would stop flying from Nairobi to Luanda (Angola), Bamako (Mali), Brazzaville (Republic of Congo) and Mogadishu (Somalia), stating that the uncertainty of the pandemic forced it to reduce operations.

The airline also interrupted flights to Khartoum (Sudan), Djibouti, Blantyre (Malawi) and Maputo (Mozambique), some of which have already resumed.

The airline Kenya Airways has operated in Angola since 2010, with a frequency of flights on the Luanda/Nairobi (Kenya) route that has increased from two to three weekly connections between the two cities, which allows transporting an average of 22,000 passengers per year.
