Africa-Press – Angola. The government of Angola and the Republic of the Philippines are carrying out negotiations with a view to signing several legal instruments, with emphasis on the Agreement on Mutual Visa Waiver for Diplomatic and Service Passports, in Luanda.
According to a press release, the two countries agreed that the agremment can be signed during the Political Consultations meeting between the two countries, scheduled for March 17th, in Manila, capital of the Philippines.
It states that the parties intend to sign other documents, namely the Memorandum of Understanding between the Venâncio de Moura Diplomatic Academy of the Angolan Foreign Ministry and the Philippines Foreign Department, the General Agreement on Economic, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism.
The note highlights that the information was revealed in Manila, during a private courtesy meeting between the Angolan ambassador to the Philippines, Daniel António Rosa, and the director for Africa of the Foreign Department of the Asian country, Marlowe Miranda.
On the occasion, the two officials expressed their commitment to getting the parties to sign these legal instruments, which will mark a new era in relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, the two diplomats discussed, among other issues, Angola’s politics and economy, as well as the country’s role on the continent and in the region, especially in relation to the presidency of the African Union (AU), which Angola will take over from this month onwards.
Angola and the Philippines made official diplomatic relations in September 2001 and during this period, several documents were drawn up between the parties.
In 2022, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Luanda, creating the basis for holding the Political Consultations, whose inaugural meeting is scheduled for March 17 this year in Manila.
