Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and the United States of America (USA) will strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of environment, higher education, science, and health, Angolan Ambassador Agostinho Van-Dúnem announced this Sunday in Washington.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the official visit of Vice President Esperança da Costa, who is participating in the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF) annual gala on Global Biodiversity Conservation, the diplomat highlighted the strategic nature of this trip, which will, beyond the environment, strengthen relations between Angola and the USA in several areas of common interest.According to Agostinho Van-Dúnem, during the gala, the Vice President will present the main national programs and projects related to environmental conservation, reinforcing the country’s commitment to sustainable development and global biodiversity protection goals.
“This is an opportunity for Angola to reaffirm its commitment to the environment and, at the same time, expand cooperation with North American universities, research centers, and healthcare institutions,” the diplomat stated.
The ambassador explained that the Angolan delegation will visit universities and hospitals with the aim of exploring academic and scientific partnerships, as part of improving the quality of higher education and scientific research.”We have a series of visits scheduled to three universities, with the aim of opening new doors for cooperation with the United States and other international partners,” he emphasized.
Agostinho Van-Dúnem also emphasized that Angola maintains good political and economic relations with the United States, highlighting cooperation in the environmental, blue economy, science, higher education, and technology sectors, within the framework of the economic diplomacy promoted by the Angolan government.ICCF Gala
The diplomat noted that the annual ICCF gala is a high-level event that brings together world leaders, former heads of state, and figures linked to environmental conservation.
He said that in 2021, President João Lourenço was recognized by the ICCF for his commitment to environmental causes and the promotion of sustainable policies in Angola and Africa.
“The gala is also an opportunity for Angola to strengthen dialogue and attract international funding for projects with social and environmental impact,” he said.
Meeting with the Angolan Community
During her stay, the Vice President of the Republic will also meet with the Angolan community living in the United States to exchange views on their living conditions and their contribution to the country’s development.
According to the ambassador, the Angolan community in the US is estimated at around seven thousand citizens, with the number of cases in conflict with the law being low, which does not exceed ten individuals.The diplomat also stated that approximately seven thousand Angolans reside in Canada and around fifteen hundred in Mexico, communities equally active in promoting Angola’s image abroad.
Diplomacy in the 50th Anniversary of Independence
When asked about the role of Angolan diplomacy throughout the 50 years of independence, Agostinho Van-Dúnem highlighted Angola’s decisive contribution to consolidating peace and stability on the African continent, as well as strengthening the country’s international relations.
He emphasized the positive role of Angolan diplomacy, both in consolidating internal peace and in establishing Angola as a credible partner and promoter of regional development and stability.
