Africa-Press – Angola. The Vietnamese President Luong Cuong begins his 72-hour state visit to Angola on Thursday (7), at the invitation of his counterpart João Lourenço, to relaunch bilateral cooperation.

This is the Vietnamese leader’s first state visit to Angola, in the year the two countries celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, with a commitment to a new level of strategic cooperation.

Angola and Vietnam formalized their diplomatic ties in Nov 12, 1975, shortly after the proclamation of the Angolan independence.

Luong Cuong is in the country’s capital since Wednesday (6) afternoon, with a visit scheduled to run until August 9, the highlight of which will be a meeting between the two heads of state at the Presidential Palace.

The visit will allow us to assess the current state of cooperation and set new goals for the coming years, with the signing of strategic agreements in several areas such as telecommunications, economic diplomacy, and the promotion of private investment.

The agenda also includes promoting Angola as a key partner of Vietnam on the African continent, taking advantage of the Angolan state’s current rotating presidency of the African Union (AU).

The visit is also expected to help consolidate Angola as a bridge between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the AU, expanding Vietnam’s presence in Africa.
