Bita Water Project Execution at 39%

Africa-Press – Angola. The director of the Bita System 4 water supply project, Feliciano Catiolo, informed on Wednesday (6) in Luanda that the construction work is at 39% of conclusion, a project expected to serve at least 3mln residents.

Feliciano Catiolo was speaking during President João Lourenço’s inspection visit to this comprehensive project, divided into 13 lots and located in the municipality of Belas. The first phase will have a production of 259,000 cubic meters daily, aiming to reduce the water supply deficit in the country’s capital.

According to the director, this percentage represents the completion of the Process Water Treatment Plant (WTP), decanters, filters, and foundations for the start of work on the Distribution Center (DC).

With completion scheduled for the end of 2026, the project is being constructed by a consortium of four construction companies, coordinated by DAR Angola, with the foundation stone laid in Oct 2022.

“Bita 4” is an integrated water supply system, comprising collection, treatment, conveyance, and distribution, which includes raw water collection from the Kwanza River and a 400-meter surface canal to the pumping station.

It includes, among other things, the installation of 65 km of treated water pipelines for transport to the system’s Distribution Centers (DCs), to be built in the areas of Cabolombo, Ramiros, and Mundial outskirt, with a reserve capacity of 100,000 cubic meters and over three thousand kilometers of distribution network to serve, in the first phase, 170,000 household connections.

The plan will also reinforce the Camama and Benfica 2 Distribution Centers, rehabilitating the network with the installation of an additional 200 kilometers of pipelines to serve the areas of Talatona, Patriota, Zona Verde, Benfica, and Futungo de Belas.

As part of his field trip, President João Lourenço, accompanied by his aides, also visited the construction site of the Quilonga Grande water supply project, located in the neighbouring province of Icolo e Bengo.
