Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of the Environment, Ana Paula de Carvalho, is participating in the 1st International Conference on Afforestation and Reforestation, which will take place from today until Friday in Brazzaville, in the Republic of Congo.

The conference aims to define a strategy to increase the number of forest areas worldwide based on international cooperation through the systematization of afforestation and reforestation activities with a view to increasing the capacity to sequester atmospheric carbon in the context of combating climate change, preserving habitats and biodiversity, supporting and maximizing the production of goods and services provided by forests.

The event brings together ministers, Heads of Government, regional and sub-regional political and economic organizations, the global scientific community, financial partners and donors, international forestry, climate and biodiversity organizations, international NGOs, international civil society organizations and around two thousand participants.

The initiative was approved by the African Union under the label of the African and World Decade of Afforestation following Decision 846 of the XXXVI, resulting from the 36th session of the Heads of State of the African Union (AU), held from 17 to 18 February 2023, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, which also announced the organization of the first International Conference on Afforestation and Forestry.

According to information provided by the Ministry of the Environment on Facebook, Monday was used to exchange experiences and contacts with other communities, highlighting the courtesy meeting with the Minister of Forestry Economy of the Republic of Congo, Rosalie Matondo.
