Africa-Press – Angola. An Angolan delegation from the National Electricity Transmission Network (RNT-EP) is in Guinea-Bissau, with a view to mobilizing members to complete the process of joining the Association of Electricity Companies of Africa (ASEA), of which Angola is a member.
The Angolan delegation, led by the President of the Board of Directors (PCA) of RNT-EP, Rui Pereira do Amaral Gourgel, was already, on Wednesday, in a courtesy meeting with the head of the Angolan Diplomatic Mission in the Republic of Guinea- Bissau, ambassador Mário Augusto.
According to a press release, sent Friday, the RNT-EP PCA said that ASEA groups 47 countries and Guinea-Bissau is the only one of the Portuguese-speaking African Countries(PALOP) that does not integrate still the association.
“The campaign to mobilize members within the PALOP began at the end of 2022 and aims to promote the Portuguese language, to make it a working language in the association”, he highlighted.
For the PCA, at this moment, there is already consultation and political support from the Guinean authorities for the country’s accession to ASEA.
He added that Guinea-Bissau’s membership in ASEA is an added value for the PALOP, within the framework of multilateral cooperation to share knowledge and training between the respective electricity companies, being one of the benefits of being a member of this specialized Association of the African Union ( AU).
According to Rui Gourgel, Angola joined ASEA in 2000 and from this period onwards it has been mobilizing electricity companies from PALOP Member States to join the association.
Currently, Angola is Vice-President of ASEA, elected at its 20th Congress held in June 2022, in Dakar (capital of the Republic of Senegal).
The Angolan delegation present in Guinea-Bissau is made up of representatives from the companies PRODEL-EP (Public Electricity Production Company), National Electricity Transmission Network (RNT-EP) and ENDE (National Electricity Distribution Company).
