Africa-Press – Angola. The Republic of Angola was elected on Wednesday in Livingstone, Zambia, member of the Executive Committee for the Legal Affairs Committee and the Ad hoc Committee of the Trust Fund of the Parliamentary Forum of the Southern African Development Community.

Angola will be represented in these two commissions by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira.

The Commission, with the mission of collecting financial donations from Member States and partners for the functioning of the structures of the FP-SADC bodies, is also composed of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Eswatini and Botswana.

In addition to the appointment of members of the body’s various executive committees, the agenda of the 3rd day of the 56th Plenary Assembly of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Parliamentary Forum was scheduled for the presentation and evaluation of the reports of the Executive Committee on Financial Issues, the Executive Committee and on FP-SADC General Policy and Administrative Normative Issues.

The event was also dominated by the presentation of national reports on the progress made by Member States in implementing the resolutions taken by the 55th Plenary Assembly, held in Luanda in July this year.

Among the documents presented and analyzed at the Plenary Session are also the reports of the Standing Commission on Human and Social Development, Special Programs of the Permanent Commission for Democratization, Governance and Human Rights, the Permanent Commission on Commerce, Industry, Finance and Investment, the Permanent Commission Committee on Food, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Climate Action, as well as the Regional Parliamentary Committee for Oversight of Model Laws.

The program of the 56th Plenary Assembly of the SADC Parliamentary Forum, which began last Monday (9), and is scheduled to end on Saturday (14), foresees the election, on Thursday, of the new Chairpersons and Vice-Chair of the body, as well as new members of the Executive Committee.

During the session, members of the SADC Parliamentary Forum reaffirmed the need to complete the signing of the treaty for the transformation of the Parliamentary Forum into a Regional Court, implementing the spirit of Luanda, approved at the 55th Assembly.

The lobby committee, made up of Zimbabwe, Namibia, South Africa and Angola, is expected to travel at the beginning of 2025 to countries that have not yet signed the aforementioned legal instrument, namely Mauritius, Botswana and Madagascar, so that no one is left behind and the 15 member countries of the SADC Parliamentary Forum can have seats in the Regional Parliament.

It was also recommended that proximity to the Comoros continue so that this island country can join the SADC Parliamentary Forum through accession to the organization as a full member.
