Africa-Press – Angola. The Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTICS), through the National Institute for the Promotion of the Information Society (INFOSI), officially launched this Friday a new service in the domain.ao, the identity address of Angola on the Internet.

It is, specifically, a digital platform where national companies can register and sell products, which will help to improve the security of these goods.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira, said that the event is of high significance for the country, in particular for all those who make cybernetic science their way of life.

According to the minister, the main objective of launching this new service on the .ao domain is to defend the interests of citizens and companies in the Internet world.

“The launch of a page to manage the .ao domain in real time, with the functionalities that we presented friday, contribute to greater dissemination and to give greater relevance to the contents of the Angolan geography in international search engines, such as Google and others, instead of a dot com or dot net,” said

He underlined that this will greatly facilitate the identification of national companies and international organizations in cyberspace.

In Angola, he continued, there is a growing number of young people entering the job market, and the Internet is a fertile and generous space for creating businesses at low cost and with a worldwide reach, referring, in this chapter, to young creators and “start ups”.

Mário Oliveira made it known that the growth from around 400 domains registered in 2018 to around six thousand domains in 2023 is already remarkable.

In turn, the director of INFOSI, André Pedro, said that the objective of this platform is to empower the Information Technology sector in Angola with a new improved e-commerce application for the registration and private management of domains with the .ao suffix .

“The equipping of this new application with new business-level tools, specifically to meet the needs resulting from the organic growth we have witnessed in the registration of domains as well as licensing, for the first time, companies approved by INFOSI to exercise the full activity of Resellers Authorized Officials of domains with suffix “ao”, he explained.

André Pedro explained that INFOSI is in charge of managing the “ccTLD” in Angola and works to facilitate access for people and companies to the digital presence on the internet.

The domain.ao consists of the identity of countries and organizations in cybernetic space and is considered the flag of countries in this space.

Its correct management represents the defense of the country and national organizations in the Internet world.

They are globally managed by an international entity and, in the case of Angola, it is MINTTICS that is responsible for protecting the domain with the suffix “ao”, an operation called “ccTTLD” and which represents Angola’s identity in cyberspace .
