Africa-Press – Angola. The Chief of the General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), Altino dos Santos, participated, this Tuesday, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in the Extraordinary Meeting of the Defense and Security Sub-committee of the SADC Troika and plus the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The meeting analyzed the modalities for the deployment of the Peace and Security Mission in the DRC (SAMIRDC), in the East of that country, under the Decision of the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of SADC, held last May in Namibia.
The event discussed and approved the SADC position for the Chiefs of Staff/Commanders Meeting
Defense of the Quadripartite Mechanism on Coordination and Harmonization of Peace Initiatives in the East of the DRC, to be held on Friday, at the headquarters of the African Union (AU).
SAMIRDC was created as a regional response to the deteriorating humanitarian and security situation in the east of that southern African country.
Recently, the SADC Council of Ministers, in Luanda, showed solidarity with the DRC and assessed the review of the region’s budget, with a view to pacifying the eastern region of that country.
