Angola reaffirms construction of railway branch with Zambia

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, reaffirmed, this Wednesday, the need to build a railway branch to link Angola to Zambia, from the Angolan town of Luacano, in Moxico province.

At the joint press conference, as part of the visit to Angola by his Zambian counterpart, Hakainde Hichilema, the Angolan Head of State informed that the connection would be made via the Benguela railway.

Still in the context of infrastructures, João Lourenço considered it fundamental that the countries of the Southern and Central African region increase investments in this segment.

“For there to be regional integration between states, it is necessary to have facilities for road, rail, air, river connections and the expansion of electricity between countries”, he noted, adding that the governments of Angola and Zambia are working in that direction.

In the field of agriculture and livestock, he said that Angola has the experience of Zambia for restocking the country with cattle, to increase self-sufficiency in meat production.

Zambia wants to boost economy

In turn, the Zambian President reiterated his government’s will to boost the economic and social program with Angola.

As for peace and security in the region, Hakainde Hichilema recognized the efforts of his Angolan counterpart in the search for solutions for stability in the Great Lakes, in particular in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“Without peace in the region, we cannot talk about investment and trade. Peace and stability are crucial,” she noted.

Angola and Zambia develop relations within the framework established by the General Agreement on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, signed in 1979.
