Africa-Press – Angola. Seventy-one thousand and 399 new formal jobs were created in Angola between January and April 2025, which represents an increase of 10% compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to the monthly report on formal jobs, supported by the database of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), these data confirm a trend of sustained growth in the formal labor market, which reported an increase of 7,081 jobs compared to the first four months of 2024.

According to the report on the evolution of employment in the country, his performance is in line with the 2.3% growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2025, driven mainly by the construction (7.8%), trade (5.3%) and agriculture and forestry (4.3%) sectors.

In terms of gender distribution, men occupy the majority of new vacancies (74%, corresponding to 52 804 jobs), while women represent 26% (18 595 jobs).

Most of the new jobs (94%) are under the “Employment Account” regime, which indicates a prevalence of formal jobs.

Luanda remains as top employment market, concentrating 54% of new jobs, while other provinces such as Benguela and Huíla contributed 7% and 4%, respectively.

The document warns, however, of the unequal distribution of jobs in the national territory, underlining the need for public policies that encourage a more balanced and inclusive development of the labor market throughout the country.

Among the sectors that contributed most to job creation are trade, collective and personal services, construction and manufacturing, noting that this diversification is a positive sign for the Angolan economy, which demonstrates its recovery and resilience in the face of recent adversities.

The Angolan Executive plans to soon incorporate the data of the new provinces created under the New Political-Administrative Division, allowing a more comprehensive reading of the country”s labor reality. At the same time, efforts are underway to promote the formalisation of economic activities and agents.

Under the National Employment Fund, it is planned to grant financing to innovative initiatives by micro-enterprises and individuals, with the creation of a national microcredit network.

On the other hand, the implementation of the National Employment Observatory will allow the Executive to monitor the labour market and calibrate employment-sensitive economic policies.
