Africa-Press – Angola. The National Swimming Team took ended in second place in the International Tournament on Sunday (01), in Luanda, after winning 65 medals, of which 18 gold, 17 silver and 30 bronze, A competition won by Namibia.

In the open system event swimming pool, the Angolan team was also distinguished as the best men’s team in the competition, in which the young swimmer, Santiago Guimarães, was the MVP, with 6 gold medals, out of the 7 won.

Of the overall medal average, the national team stood out with 9 gold medals, won by the women’s team.

On Sunday (01), at the closing ceremony, the highlight was the breaststroke athlete Nhara Fernandes, who won at the 100m event with a time of 1:18.18, beating the veteran Maria Freitas, who won the silver medal with 1:18.28, and the Zambian Johanna Coates, who secured the bronze with 1:20.09.

The experienced Lia Lima shone again in the 200m butterfly, leading the event with a time of 2:28.57, beating the Mozambican Marta MPfumo, who was 2nd with 2:58.92, while the Angolan Aleksandra Zhukov took the bronze with 3:02.88.

The tournament was won by Namibia, which won 37 medals, 22 gold (which determines the final classification), 10 silver and 5 bronze.

Namibia’s Ainoa Noukosho was the MVP in the women’s competition, with 7 gold medals and a silver one.

South Africa, which was represented by swimmers in the development phase, came in 3rd position, with 17 medals, including 9 gold, 7 silver and a bronze.

The Clube Náutico da Ilha de Luanda (CNIL), which was reinforced by veteran Pedro Pinotes, secured 4th position, with 23 medals, 6 gold, 11 silver and 6 bronze.

The Portuguese team came in fifth, with 11 medals, 4 gold, 6 silver and a bronze. Mozambique finished sixth, with 14, two gold, four silver and eight bronze.

Zambia came in 7th, with 7 medals, 1 gold, 3 silver and bronze. Onda Sport Clube, with 3 medals, 2 silver and a bronze, placed in 8th.

The Cape Verdean counterpart came in 9th, with a silver, Clube Barracudas in 10th, with 3 bronze medals, while Clube 1o de Agosto, with one bronze, came in 11th and last.
