Africa-Press – Angola. Angola will start exporting iodized salt to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as of next week, under a memorandum signed on Friday in the city of Mbanza Kongo, Zaire province.

To this end, two Angolan salt companies (Salinas Calombolo and Macaca) and one from the DRC (Mbakidi Ngangu) signed the cooperation agreement, as part of the Expo-Kongo 2025.

To the press, the commercial director of Salinas Calombolo, Nercia Tailer, said that with the signing of this protocol, the company will increase the production levels of table salt to supply the domestic market and the neighboring country.

Headquartered in the province of Benguela, on the southern coast of Angola, the company has been in existence for 50 years and it produces 200,000 tons of salt for human consumption monthly.

“We have about 80,000 tons of salt in our stock for export,” he said.

In turn, the manager of the company Mbakidi Ngangu, from the DRC, Joaquim Frederico Mingui, said that, in a first phase, his firm will import from Angola 40,000 bags of salt of 25 kilos each, having highlighted the quality of the product produced in Angola.

The national director of Fisheries and Salt of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Fátima Delicado, who witnessed the signing of the memorandum, said that the agreement is part of the Executive policies aimed at diversifying the national economy.

For Fátima Delicado, Angola is self-sufficient in the production of iodized salt and should therefore work to attract more partners to sell the surplus.

Some 150 national exhibitors participate in the 5th edition of Expo-Kongo, which is scheduled to close this Tuesday, July 8, the date on which the city of Mbanza Kongo celebrates the 8th anniversary of its elevation to World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
