Africa-Press – Angola. The Angola and Democratic Republic of Congo teams face each other this Thursday at the Moi International Sports Center in Kenya, starting at 6 pm, as part of the fourth match of Group A of the African Football Championship (CHAN’2025).

With this game, Angola can “redeem” itself from the defeat in the 2016 edition when the squad were defeated by the Democratic Republic of Congo, 2-4, in the challenge counting for the 2nd round of group B, a competition played in Rwanda, in the only clash between them, in the final phase of a CHAN.

In the previous round of the competition reserved for athletes competing in national championships, held in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, Angola defeated Zambia 2-1, now occupying second place with four points.

At the time, the DR Congo also defeated Zambia 2-0 in its last match, but currently occupies fourth place with three points.

Angola is looking to improve on its second-place finish in 2011 in Sudan, after losing 3-0 to Tunisia in the final. The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has won two consecutive titles, in 2009 in Côte d’Ivoire and in 2016 in Rwanda.

In this match, which concludes the regular season, Angola must win and wait for the results of their group opponents to determine whether they advance to the next stage.

Angolan striker Kaporal, who scored two goals in the victory over Zambia, is tipped to be in the starting team.

The African Football Championship (CHAN’2025), which will take place until the 30th in Nairobi (Kenya), features 18 national teams, divided in five groups in which three groups are made of four teams and two groups with three teams.

The top two teams from each four-team group, and the top team from each three-team group, will move to the knockout stage.

From there, everything is decided in direct knockout rounds such as quarterfinals, semifinals and the final.
