Africa-Press – Angola. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Production Company (PRODEL), Pedro Eduardo Afonso, announced this Wednesday that the country currently has a production capacity of 6,300 Megawatts (MW) of energy from from different sources.

According to the official, with this energy coming from thermal, water and photovoltaic sources, the country registers an improvement in the supply of electricity, as a result of investments by the Executive.

Pedro Afonso, who was speaking to the press in Ndalatando, highlighted the Government’s commitment to the construction of hydroelectric dams and the installation of photovoltaic power plants, with a view to increasing electricity production capacity.

The official defended, on the other hand, the improvement in communication to mitigate the impact of the cyclical floods in lower Dondo.

Pedro Eduardo Afonso advised the population to avoid growing crops on the banks of the Kwanza River, to avoid damage to agricultural production.

Cuanza Norte is home to the hydroelectric dam of the same name in the municipality of Cambambe, with an installed capacity of 960 MW.

Still in Cambambe, the Caculo Cabaça hydroelectric facility is being built, in the commune of São Pedro da Quilemba, 74 kilometers from Dondo, the municipality’s seat, which will generate 2,172 MW and produce electricity for over eight million Angolans.
