Africa-Press – Angola. The Government of Angola on Thursday expressed its repudiation and total condemnation of the coup d’état carried out by the self-proclaimed Military High Command for the Restoration of National Security and Public Order of the State, in Guinea-Bissau, which took place on Wednesday.

In an official note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Angolan authorities express deep concern about the seriousness of the political situation in the sister country, highlighting the imperative need to guarantee full respect for Human Rights and the safeguarding of the physical integrity of all political personalities detained within the scope of the institutional rupture.

Among them, the outgoing President, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, stands out, as well as opposition leaders and officials involved in the ongoing electoral process.

The Government of Angola also reinforces that the continuity of the functions of the National Elections Commission (CNE) is essential for democratic stability and legality in Guinea-Bissau.

For this reason, it calls for the creation of conditions that allow the electoral body to continue, without pressure or intimidation, its mission of publishing electoral results, as stipulated by current legislation.

Angola finally reiterated its commitment to defending the constitutional order and promoting peace and security in the region, calling for the rapid re-establishment of institutional normality in Guinea-Bissau.
