Africa-Press – Angola. UNITA hold its 14th Ordinary Congress from Friday (28) until the 30th, with the participation of 1,251 delegates who will elect the party’s next president.

The leadership will be contested between Adalberto da Costa Júnior, who seeks to renew his mandate, and Rafael Massanga Savimbi, who presents himself as an alternative.

In addition to the election, the congress includes the revision of the statutes, the definition of the political line, and the approval of internal reports.

Delegates from all provinces will participate in debates, strategic motions, and sessions to assess the country’s situation.

According to the organizing committee, all preparatory tasks have been completed according to schedule.

The provincial conferences elected delegates and candidates for the Political Commission and analyzed proposals for statutory revision.

The internal campaign of the two candidates, who toured the country, ended on the 26th of this month.

The program foresees, after the opening ceremony, a debate between the candidates on the 28th.

On the 20th, the work will take place in committees and plenary sessions, with the election scheduled for the 30th.

The Electoral Commission states that it has all the conditions ensured to guarantee a transparent process.
