Angolan President Honors Cuban General with Medal

Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan president João Lourenço on Wednesday honored Cuban General Leopoldo Cintras Frías with the Independence medal.

A note from the Press Office of the Presidency of the Republic sent that the award is made under the law that created the commemorative medal to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence.

The Angolan Head of State is carrying out a medal awarding process to personalities whose actions, throughout history, have made an indelible contribution to Angola.

For the upcoming ceremonies to be held on Thursday and Friday of this week in Luanda, 698 people will be honored, 253 in the Independence Class and 445 in the Peace and Development Class.

General Leopoldo Cintra Frías, 83, was Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba between 2011 and 2021.

He is a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and holds the high distinction of Hero of the Republic.
