Africa-Press – Angola. The Archbishop of Huambo, Dom Zeferino Zeca Martins, on Sunday in the municipality of Caála, Huambo Province, called for the practice of charity as a path to social transformation and strengthening of the Christian faith and experience.
The Catholic prelate was speaking at the closing of the annual diocesan pilgrimage to the Marian Shrine of Our Lady of the Mount, which included the ordination of ten deacons and a priest.
Dom Zeferino Zeca Martins said that spiritual life should bring authentic conversion and an ever-increasing commitment to the mission of the Church and society in general.
Based on the teachings of the Apostle Paul and the example of Mary, mother of Jesus, he emphasized that love and charity purify and restore the image of God, while dispelling sin, envy, hatred and discord.
“If there is more love in families, parishes, and dioceses, these places will be happier, and this will have an impact on society and the country”, he stated.
He added that Angola can disseminate true love as a nation and as the people of God.
To the newly ordained religious leaders, Dom Zeferino Zeca Martins recommended that they commit themselves to the mission of sanctification and to the proclamation of the gospel with authenticity to promote a coherent experience of faith as a Christian witness before others.
Regarding the pilgrimage, which has been taking place since Friday, he stated that it constitutes an experience of communion, in which the believers present through prayers the joys, achievements, difficulties and sufferings of the community, including those who do not share the same faith.
The closing ceremony was attended by the provincial governor of Huambo, Pereira Alfredo, and thousands of believers.
However, moments of thanksgiving, songs of praise, as well as the swearing-in of the new deacons and the priest, marked the event. The previous edition took place on August 18, 2024.
