Africa-Press – Angola. Managers of public bodies in Cunene province were made aware, this Saturday, of the importance of transparent management of public funds, in a lecture on “The Harmful Effects of Corruption and Related Crimes”.

Promoted by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) in Cunene, the lecture, part of the program of activities of the body responsible for overseeing legality, covered all managers of budgetary units.

On the occasion, the Attorney General, Vicente Cuancua, said that the objective is to reinforce the constitutional and ethical legal awareness of those who hold positions of high responsibility in the management of resources and powers.

He stressed the importance of each manager prioritizing responsible management of public assets, in accordance with Article 21 of the Constitution, for the satisfaction of the collective interest. He clarified that this article lists fundamental tasks of the State such as social welfare and the fulfillment of the population’s needs, which is why they were appointed as managers in the exercise of administrative positions.

“When we divert resources made available for the improvement of basic services in municipalities, hospitals and other areas, we end up breaking the citizens’ trust in the institutions,” he warned.

He reminded that those who appropriate public goods as if they were private, receive undue advantages, exchange decisions for benefits, end up betraying the law, the people they represent, and weaken the State itself.

Vicente Cuancua indicated that corruption is dynamic because it adopts new methods, which is why the Attorney General’s Office will continue to raise awareness about honesty in the management of public funds, as a way to combat this evil.

The activity was attended by the Vice-Governor for Technical Services and Infrastructure, António Matias, directors and delegates of public bodies and municipal administrators.
