Africa-Press – Angola. The Areal market, located in the urban district of Benfica, in the municipality of Talatona, has a total of 689 benches available for street vendors, as part of the trade planning process underway in Luanda.
The market administrator, Segunda Eduardo Zamba, said that, of the 1,180 stands in the enclosure, 485 are already occupied.
On the other hand, he said that the market also has 59 stores, of which only 23 are in use.
On the occasion, he explained that the low occupancy rate of the spaces has to do with the access roads to the market.
“This situation discourages the frequency of customers to the place and, consequently, affects the saleswomen”, justified the person in charge.
As for access, he said that the road, which connects the market and Avenida Fidel de Castro, passing through the interior of the Chinguar neighborhood, should be intervened.
According to the administrator, the area with the largest number of saleswomen and customers is clothing and footwear, followed by rural products.
As for the sellers’ contribution, the administrator informed that they all pay a daily fee of 150 kwanzas (Kz) per day.
Referring to market conditions, Segunda Samba stressed that the enclosure will benefit from improvement works, with emphasis on earthworks in the interior and painting.
Built in 2012, the space of more than four hectares has five aisles distributed in areas of clothing, industrial food, construction material and field products.
