Africa-Press – Angola. Several bones allegedly of some leading figures of the then armed wing of UNITA, the FALA, were found recently, in Luando, Tchanji locality, Cuemba municipality, Bié province.
The discovery was made by the Commission for the Implementation of the Reconciliation Plan in Memory of the Victims of Political Conflicts (CIVICOP), Angolan Public Television (TPA) reported on Monday.
TPA advances that among the bones should be those of generals Armando Júlio (Tarzan), Altino Bango Sapalalo (Bock), Antero Vieira, António Perestelo Moura, as well as Ana lsabel Paulino Polipossa “Ana Savimbi”, one of the former leader’s wives from UNITA, Jonas Savimbi.
It refers that, in addition to these citizens, presumably murdered at the behest of the then president of UNITA, Jonas Savimbi, the bones of an 11 to 14-year-old girl, whose identity is unknown, were also found.
With the aim of finding the victims of the political conflicts from 1975 to 2002, CIVICOP, after having already been to Cuando Cubango, works in that locality in the province of Bié.
It is a task under the command of the coordinator of the Sub-Commission for Security, Logistics and Infrastructure of CIVICOP, Fernando Garcia Miala.
The record of this incident, in which senior commanders of the extinct FALA are involved, will have occurred following the military defeat that this force suffered, on 25 April 2000, in the city of Cuito, province of Bié.
Creation of CIVICOP
In April 2019, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, ordered the creation of CIVICOP, with a view to drawing up a general plan to honor the victims of the political conflicts that took place in Angola between 11 November 1975 (Independence Day) and April 4, 2002 (end of war).
The Reconciliation Plan in Memory of Victims of Political Conflicts provides, among other issues, for the issuance of death certificates and the construction of a single memorial for all victims of political conflicts registered in the country.
