Africa-Press – Angola. The President of Brazil, Luís Inácio Lula da Silva, encouraged his country’s business community to invest in Angola this Friday in Brasília, highlighting that this African partner has always been a good payer and paid off its debt five years in advance.
“Therefore, no one should be afraid of selling anything or making any loan to Angola, because Angolans are compliant with their obligations”, he pointed out, arguing that investors should take this aspect into account to increase investments in Angola.
The Brazilian statesman made these considerations after the signing of four legal instruments between Brazil and Angola, as part of President João Lourenço’s state visit to his country, the second day of which was also dedicated to a meeting with local business community.
The participants considered the meeting to be beneficial, as it provided an idea of the potential that the country can offer in different business segments. In statements, the director of the Brazilian Rice Industry Association (Abiarroz), Gustavo Trevizan, said that there are synergies to continue, despite the need to better understand the Angolan market and its particularities.
“We were assured that the Angolan market is open and safe for investment. We have to prospect, but there is a great understanding between the parties and we have the capacity to supply and help provide food security”, he stressed, referring that Abiarroz has been exporting to the country for over 10 years.
The association leader expressed the institution’s willingness to work to increase trade in rice and the transplantation of this product, with the prospect of Brazil resuming its business volume, previously above 4 billion dollars and currently set at around 1.5 billion. The president of the Brazil-Africa Institute, João Bosco Monte, highlighted that acts of this kind make investors more interested in the market in question.
“I believe it is very important for the President to be able to tell businesspeople what the demands, vocations, needs and potential are that Angola can offer to Brazilian businesspeople in various segments, such as agriculture, health and infrastructure.
Certainly, what the president’s voice conveys to businesspeople makes them like Angola, and Africa in general,” he stated.
