Africa-Press – Angola. The fight against fake news goes beyond the legislative framework and also involves education issues, the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media, Mário Oliveira.
Speaking to the press following the inauguration of two internet access points in the municipality of Cacuaco, the minister said the access to information and responsible use of the internet is the starting point for reducing the proliferation of fake news.
“Access to computer rooms allows young people to learn, in fact, the need to use the internet responsibly. The legislative part is like any other human activity. Education and legislation make up the rules of society,” the minister said.
In March, the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media sent the National Assembly a draft law called “Dissemination of False Information on the Internet”, the idea of which is basically to “strengthen combat against disinformation”.
According to the proposed law, inauthentic accounts, unlabeled artificial disseminators, understood as those whose use is not communicated to the application provider and the user, as well as those used to disseminate disinformation, among others, will be banned.
The two points are part of the “Angola On Line” project which, from a national perspective, has already set up more than 200 internet access points.
Data from the National Institute for the Promotion of the Information Society points to eight million users of Angola Online services in the last three years, with young people between the ages of 14 and 25 as the main users.
