Africa-Press – Angola. Fundação Brilhante, the social face of the diamond subsector, will finance the construction of a tourist and socio-cultural village, called “Sona”, in the city of Dundo, province of Lunda Norte, with a view to the preservation, dissemination and conservation of cultural heritage local.
The project presented (Tuesday), in Dundo, by Fundação Brilhante to local authorities, after signing a memorandum of understanding between the institution and the Provincial Government, will be implemented within a year and will have 90 units (barracks in the form of circle), of types T1 and T2, four tennis courts, two courts for basketball and an equal number of football courts, in addition to green spaces.
It will also have an arts school, a church, a protocol house, a space for rituals such as mukanda (male initiation), Cikwmbi (female initiation), mungonge-cyiwila (high level of mukanda) and three jangos.
The memorandum also aims to support individual projects of common and mutual interest with the concept of village, the requalification and equipping of the Dundo Regional Museum and the provincial library.
On the occasion, the director of the technical, culture and arts office at Fundação Brilhante, Arleth Leandro, said that the initiative aims to pay homage to “Sona” (an ethnomathematical art and symbol of Tchokwe culture), with a view to its recovery and dissemination.
Sona constitutes an artistic and educational element of the Lunda people that brings together sciences conducive to general knowledge, used by the ancestors of this region, which also served, over time, as a means of communication.
This is an Angolan intangible wealth that is part of the Ministry of Cultural’s intentions to be elevated to World Heritage by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
These difficult-to-understand engravings are currently found in the Dundo Museum, in the province of Lunda Norte, and around the world there are more than 10 scientific works that portray him.
In turn, the deputy governor for the social, political and economic sector of Lunda Norte, Frederico Barroso, highlighted that the Lunda Cokwe people have a rich culture that must be preserved and transmitted to new generations and, the signed memorandum will boost this process.
