Africa-Press – Angola. Citizens of Caála, Huambo province, today, Friday, praised the figure of the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, as a nationalist, politician, poet and doctor, who always fought for national identity and Angolanness.

The recognition of the founder of the Angolan Nation took place during the early celebrations of National Hero’s Day, which is celebrated on the 17th of this month, under the motto “Together for the Development of Angola”.

On the occasion, the administrator of the municipality of Caála, Rúben Isaías Etome, appealed to the need to share, on a permanent basis, the patriotic principles defended by the proclaimer of National Independence, from the perspective of building the Angolan Nation and safeguarding territorial integrity.

The person responsible guided the dissemination of the humanist character of António Agostinho Neto, to serve as an inspiration, both for current and future generations.

He highlighted that Agostinho Neto was a politician with a high humanist spirit, who will always be present in the lives of all Angolans, whose sense of State contributed to the liberation of Southern Africa.

António Agostinho Neto was born in Icolo and Bengo on September 17, 1922 and died in Moscow on September 10, 1979.

He was an Angolan doctor, writer and politician. In 1975 he proclaimed National Independence and became the first President of Angola until 1979.
