Africa-Press – Angola. With 17 medals, of which four gold, three silver and 10 bronze, the national team finished fourth at the African Canoeing Championship, which ended Sunday in the Bay of Luanda, with the conquest of the trophy by Egypt.

Angola, which hosted the event for the first time, dropped one place from the previous edition, in 2023, in Nigeria.

However, the country managed to maintain the title it holds from 2023 in the 500m C2, with the pair of Benilson Sanda and Manuel António.

The two national canoeists were equally outstanding in the individual events, where Manuel António secured gold in the 200m C1 and Benilson Sanda won the most important event of the category (1000m C1), earning him the title of most valuable athlete of the tournament (MVP).

With Egypt 18 medals (7 gold, 9 silver and 2 bronze), the podium is made up of Algeria, 16 medals (7 gold, 6 silver, 3 bronze) and Tunisia, also 16 (5 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze).

The championship is held in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of national independence, marked on 11 November.

The next edition of the African canoeing will take place in Algeria, being a point for the qualifying process for the 2028 Olympic Games.
