Africa-Press – Angola. Thirty-seven million, 200 thousand kwanzas were collected during the cattle auction, held this Saturday, in Cunene province, through the sale of 185 different animals.
The event, which took place within the framework of the 53rd anniversary of the province of Cunene, marked on the 10th of July, consisted of 51 lots of cattle of the “bramam”, “bosmara”, “mix”, “zebu” breeds, cross-species goats , sheep, pigs, horses and various birds.
At the enclosure created for the trade in animals, there were local businessmen and livestock, from the provinces of Huíla and Namibe, as well as from the neighboring Republic of Namibia.
The vice-president of Expo/2023, Francisco Lumbamba, said that the event exceeded sales expectations and the massive participation of creators and buyers.
For her part, the governor of Cunene, Gerdina Didalelwa, said that the auction was an opportunity for breeders to exchange ideas and assess livestock development in the region, after four years at a standstill due to the Covid-19 pandemic and drought.
Gerdina Didalelwa stressed that the auction is an opportunity to diversify the economy carried out by the Executive.
“This is a party that the province has not held for four years and without a doubt we can consider it positive, given the participation of breeders and the sales made”, he maintained.
He considered the cattle auction as the biggest stock exchange in Cunene province, which currently holds the largest number of animals, providing an opportunity for breeders to improve specials and sell.
The minister encouraged breeders to work continuously to improve the quality of animals, as well as to raise awareness among traditional breeders of the need to excel in the culture of selling animals.
“Most of the livestock is owned by traditional breeders and we need to make our population aware of the culture of selling livestock, in order to generate income and not accumulate livestock to then be affected by the severe drought that it ends up dying,” he maintained.
The event was honored by the governor of the province of Huila, Nuno Mahapi, of the region of Oshana (Namibia) Walter Ndeshia, the consul of Namibia in Angola, the president of the National Federation of Livestock Cooperatives of Angola, Salvador Rodrigues, among other individuals.
