Africa-Press – Angola. Forty field agents started this Tuesday with the deployment of teams to collect data in the 36 census zones in Cuito Cuanavale and Cuangar, in Cuando Cubango, as part of the Pilot Census, opened on 19 July this year.

The Pilot Census will take place between the 19th of July and the 19th of August in the provinces of Cuando Cubango, Bié, Bengo, Cunene, Luanda, Lunda Norte and Uíge, with the aim of testing the level of readiness for the intervention of all associated procedures operational, logistical, technical-functional and organizational implementation, for the success of the general population census to take place in 2024.

The head of the Provincial Service of the National Statistics Institute (INE) in Cuando Cubango, Rubem Nunes, in addition to field agents, the operation has 24 provincial, municipal and communal technical assistants.

According to the official, each field agent working in the urban area is responsible for censusing 80 to 120 households in a month, while the peri-urban agent will carry out 60 to 80 households.

Angola has already carried out two general population and housing censuses, namely in 1970, during the colonial period, and in 2014, after national independence, with the 2024 statistical registration being the third census operation that the country will carry out.

The province of Cuando Cubango, the second largest in the country, with more than 199 thousand square kilometers, has a total of close to 535 thousand and 838 inhabitants, according to the 2014 census, with a projection for 2023 of 697 thousand and 397 inhabitants.
