Africa-Press – Angola. Work on the new headquarters of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) in the Central Judiciary Region of the country will start later this year, in Benguela province, aiming to provide a quality public service and provide more accommodation for technicians.

The information was provided yesterday, in the city of Cuito, by the PGR sub-prosecutor and coordinator of this Region, Carlos Manuel dos Santos, at the opening act of the 3rd extended meeting, attended by public prosecutors from the provinces of Benguela, Cuanza sul, Huambo and Bié.

Carlos Manuel dos Santos also added that the infrastructure, which will be built near “Praia Morena”, will be the responsibility of the Government of that province.

Currently, the PGR in the Central Region of Angola operates in temporary facilities.

The magistrate also confirmed that the government authorities of Huambo have already registered the construction of a new PGR headquarters in the capital of the province, which should house all the services assigned to the institution.

He was concerned about the fact that in Bié, Cuanza Sul and Huambo they do not have infrastructures allocated to the organ, being operating in temporary buildings and in some cases in infrastructures of the courts and of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), the which does not dignify the image of the sector, taking into account its attributions in the field of administration of justice.

Carlos Manuel dos Santos also pointed out the lack of human resources, transport, housing, among others, as the main difficulties that the Attorney General’s Office faces in the said provinces.

In turn, the governor of the province of Bié, Pereira Alfredo, invited to proceed with the opening act, praised the role that this institution has been playing as holder of criminal proceedings and in the defense of legality.

In this sense, Pereira Alfredo reaffirmed the commitment of the local Government to strengthen a fruitful collaboration, so that there is an improvement in the work and accommodation of the Public Ministry magistrates.

During two days, participants will address topics related to the annual report of activities carried out in 2022 and the presentation of the annual plan of activities for 2023.

There are also those on “The relationship between the Public Ministry, Criminal Investigation Bodies and the Guarantee Judge, the Role of the Guarantee Judge in the Preparatory Instruction, the Action of the AGT and the Fiscal Police in the Preparatory Instruction, among others.

The Central Region of the PGR of this part of the national territory has 126 judges and 303 technicians and administrative staff.
