CFM resumes passenger train circulation in September

Africa-Press – Angola. The chairman of the Board of Directors of Moçâmedes Railways (CFM), António Coelho da Cruz, announced this Thursday the resumption, in September, of passenger train circulation between the municipalities of Moçâmedes/ Bibala, province of Namibe, inoperative since 2021.

Speaking on the sidelines of Expo Azul, where CFM is also present, António da Cruz guaranteed that the circulation plan will be daily, with the ticket price to be charged to passengers being studied.

In a first phase, according to the official, services will be available for 100 passengers, a number that may change depending on demand.

The same services will also reach the province of Cuando Cubango, according to António Cruz, who admitted the stoppage of passenger transport services between Moçâmedes/Bibala and Huíla, since 2021.

“Our main objective is to continue to grow gradually, since the prices to be practiced will be stipulated thinking about the pockets of citizens with financial difficulties”, he underlined.

He added that the same growth plan of the company also contemplates the resumption of the tourist train that will circulate, once a month, between the provinces of Namibe and Cuando Cubango.

With regard to freight trains, António Coelho da Cruz pointed out that the company has freight trains available that transport granite, the number of which will be increased, starting in September, from three to six wagons, after the acquisition of another 42 wagons that the company will receive.

Among other actions, CFM expects to start, next week, the transport of pig iron and increase the volume of fuel transfer between Namibe/Lubango and Cuando Cubango”, he informed.
