Africa-Press – Angola. The Executive Secretary of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), Maria de Fátima Jardim, congratulated on Monday (25) the President of the Republic and the National Basketball Team for winning the 12th Afrobasket title.

Congratulations were extended to the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB) and the Angolan people for their achievement on Sunday (24), at the end of the event held in the provinces of Namibe and Luanda.

In a letter addressed to President João Lourenço, Fátima Jardim emphasized that the 12th African basketball title reflects “not only the team’s sporting excellence, but also the collective effort, determination, and passion, values that have been fundamental in the construction of Angola.”

“This victory is, without a doubt, a reflection of our leadership and continued commitment to the sporting dimension,” she stressed.

She added that this event also represents a milestone for new achievements and a source of inspiration for future generations, not only in Angola but throughout the CPLP region.

Angola won its 12th African trophy, 12 years after its last victory in 2013.

After an undefeated run, in the final played at the Kilamba pavilion in Luanda, they defeated Mali 70-43.

The victory solidifies Angola’s dominance on the continent with 12 trophies.
