Africa-Press – Angola. The Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) has established an Observation Mission (MOE) for the Presidential and Legislative Elections in Guinea-Bissau to take place on November 23 at the request of the Guinean authorities.
The MOE is headed by Lieutenant General Luis Diogo de Carvalho, former director of the CPLP’s Center for Strategic Analysis, and includes 22 international observers, among them diplomats and technicians appointed by the Member States, deputies designated by the CPLP Parliamentary Assembly (AP-CPLP) and officials from the organization’s Executive Secretariat.
The mission will remain in Bissau until November 25, with the purpose of monitoring the final phase of the electoral campaign, Election Day, the vote count and the partial tabulation of results.
It will coordinate actions with other international organizations present, namely the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU).
The CPLP welcomes the commitment of the authorities, presidential candidates, political parties and the National Elections Commission (CNE) to holding peaceful, inclusive and simultaneous elections, which strengthens democracy in the Portuguese-speaking world.
It is important to note that a Preliminary Declaration will be issued at the end of the mission and publicly delivered by the Head of Mission.
