Africa-Press – Angola. Cultural agents in the municipality of Mbanza Kongo, Zaire province, expressed their dismay this Thursday at the delay in the Comandante Bula cultural center coming into operation, which benefited from rehabilitation and expansion works.
The aforementioned center was reopened in May this year, after charitable works financed by the company Angola LNG, which disbursed an amount valued at 3.5 million US dollars.
The building was modernized and equipped, including its multipurpose hall, which now has more seats on the benches, as well as a commercial area with some stores and other compartments, the work on which lasted 11 months.
Speaking this Thursday, some cultural agents stated that they did not understand the delay in bringing this infrastructure into operation and expressed concern about the silence of local authorities.
Álvaro Makubikua, cultural agent, said that the purpose of this cultural center is, above all, to ensure the occupation of free time by local young people and to relaunch the musical-cultural activity that has not been felt in the district for a long time.
For him, the competent authorities should explain to the public the reasons for not opening the aforementioned cultural center, four months after its reopening.
The same concern was expressed by young Teresa Augusto, who pointed out the need to urgently reopen the infrastructure to provide moments of leisure and fun for residents.
“The lack of leisure and entertainment spaces for young people to spend their free time also contributes to the increase in some crimes in our municipality”, he asserted.
In turn, Eduardo Monteiro, promoter of cultural events, understands that a social asset, when it is inaugurated, must be available to citizens for their enjoyment, which is why he asked the competent bodies to ensure this situation.
He suggested the appointment, through a public tender, of a company for the efficient management of the building.
In the view of another promoter of cultural activities, César Júnior, local cultural agents are embarrassed to see themselves deprived of a space that was created to promote and enhance the local cultural mosaic.
“This attitude contributes to the weakening of the cultural movement and culture, in its truest sense”, he emphasized.
The Comandante Bula cultural center was reopened by the vice-president of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, who, on the occasion, said that its rehabilitation and modernization was part of the Executive’s policy of encouraging the construction and increase of cultural infrastructures for youth Angolan.
At the time, he highlighted that the creation of conditions for the diversification of cultural products and initiatives provides expanded access to the practice of sporting activities among young people, with a view to contributing to a healthier lifestyle.
Meanwhile, a source from the Provincial Office of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports of Zaire, confided that the Provincial Government will comment, within days, on the launch of a public tender to find a company specialized for the management of the aforementioned cultural center.
