Africa-Press – Angola. The Department of the Provincial Human Rights Committee of Cunene is intensifying awareness-raising efforts on human trafficking to prevent this organized crime in the region.
This information was provided on Friday by Sara Tulikene, head of the Department in Cunene, as part of the commemorative events for World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, celebrated on July 30th.
She explained that through campaigns and the distribution of educational materials, they are informing and educating communities about the concept of human trafficking, how it occurs, and its impacts on society.
She explained that community leaders, non-governmental organizations, and schools are engaged, thus facilitating the prevention of this type of organized crime, which deprives people of their fundamental rights. She pointed out that, given this reality, the Human Rights Committee in Cunene had no recorded cases of human trafficking this year, compared to six in 2024.
She urged young people to be cautious about job offers to avoid falling prey to human trafficking attempts, which are more common for forced labor, commercial exploitation, sexual slavery, and organ harvesting.
She also noted that employers lure victims with good jobs, high salaries, and social conditions, but in practice, things are different. Therefore, when accepting, one should verify the legitimacy of the offer, the company, and the recruitment process.
Sara Tulikene reported that these crimes occur everywhere, with a greater emphasis on the tourism and construction sectors, both within and outside the province.
World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is celebrated annually on July 30th and is an opportunity to reflect on the need to end human exploitation and help victims rebuild their lives.
