Africa-Press – Angola. The tennis players Daniel Domingos and Mariana Costa were crowned (Thursday), in Luanda, national cadet champions (U-16), in both genders, in games played on the courts of the Kikuxi Villas Club (KVC), in Viana.

In the men’s sector, the KVC player achieved the feat, beating Justino Rodrigues (KVC) in the final, by partials of 6-2 and 7-5, the latter in the tiebreak.

To reach the final stage of the competition, the two opponents removed (Wednesday), in the semi-final games, Roberto Matongo and Emerson Pedro (NJ), by partials of 6-3, 6-1 and 6-4, 6 -3, respectively.

In female, Mariana Costa (KVC) defeated, with some difficulty, Ana Lemos (NJ), by 3-6, 6-4 and 10-7, after eliminating Teresa Macaia (NJ) and Dandara Roque (BC), by 6 -4, 6-2 and equal 6-1, in the semi-finals of the previous day.

As for the pairs, the victory fell to the duo Teresa Macaia / Ana Lemos over Mariana Costa / Vitória Ramos, by 7-5, 4-6 and 7-2, in the “teabrek”, tiebreaker.

In the boys, Roberto Matondo / Emerson Pedro triumphed over Daniel Domingos / Justino Rodrigues, by 6-2, 2-6 and 7-1.

With the participation of nearly fifty players from both classes, representing the provinces of Luanda, Benguela, Namibe, Huila and Lunda Norte, the competition is organized by the Angolan Tennis Federation (FAT).

In collaboration with the Kikuxi Villas Club Tennis Academy, which lent its courts, the championship is the subject of some disputes on the part of coaches and association leaders, due to the mix in the matches of players from much lower categories.

At first, separate junior championships were scheduled, in under-14s, 16s and 18s, which so far has not happened, due to a supposed decision by the FAT president, Platine Mendes, given the absence of some Kikuxi players, who are located in Portugal.
