Africa-Press – Angola. The world champion of Liga Ares Fighting Championship, in the category of 61 Kgs, in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), the Angolan Demarte Pena intends to defend the title, next November, in the country.

The information was provided, (Wednesday), in Luanda, to the press by the fighter himself, after hearing by the secretary of State for Sport, Teresa Ulundo, to assess the intention and his link now in the fights for the Liga Ares, in France.

According to the MMA competitor, who still doesn’t know his next opponent, nor the city in the country, where he could possibly hold the fight, it’s the realization of his “dream” of defending his belt in Angola.

He added that his technical team and promoters are working to find a suitable opponent for the event, therefore, coming to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, to ask for institutional support.

The 13-time world champion in the specialty explained that the request was well received by the Secretary of State for Sport, which guaranteed full support for the competition to take place in November, with excellence.

In turn, the Secretary of State, Teresa Ulundo, recognized that the meeting with the fighter was to welcome him, being an opportunity that the Ministry of Youth and Sports had to listen to his pretensions.

Still according to the person in charge, it was a personal way of confirming Demarte Pena’s intentions, and congratulating her on the 13 titles she won in the MMA modality.

“We listen carefully to their dreams and perspectives, so that together we can outline the paths they can follow in their careers and achieve their goals. He himself traced and also joined the federation of our country, which asked for help at this level, ”he said.

As for the athlete’s “dream” of holding the fight in the country, Teresa Ulundo, stressed that the Ministry will support, not only institutionally, but also in the preparation of the event, in November.

He admitted that MMA already has many other champions and followers and the Ministry wants to provide followers and champions with the opportunity to see competition at the highest level in Angola.

Resident in South Africa for more than 20 years, Angolan boxer Demarte Pena arrived in Luanda, this Tuesday, for a stage of sports diplomacy, presentation of projects and reunion with his family.

After having made history by becoming world champion of the 12th edition of the ARES Fighting Championship, whose title was disputed in Paris, France.

33-year-old Demarte Pena, also nicknamed The Wolf or “Lobo”, on the 17th of February won by unanimous decision his Algerian opponent, Elias Boudegzadame, in Dôme, in the French capital. On the 11th of May, he beat Frances Mehdi Saddi, when he revalidated the title and the crown.

This is the 13th bout won by the most internationally recognized Angolan mixed arts fighter, with just one defeat in 14 contested bouts.

The athlete is one of the best MMA fighters in the world and remains unbeaten in the EFC with 13 titles. Demarte Pena also held the Extreme Fighting Championship Worldwide (EFC-Worldwide) world title.
