Deputy governor highlights the importance of the book in social development

Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor of Huambo province for the Political, Economic and Social sector, Angelino Edmungo Elavoco, highlighted this Friday the importance of books in social development and human freedoms.

Speaking at the launch of the 1st edition of the cultural project of the José Eduardo dos Santos University (UJES), the official said that the book promotes reading and writing and helps fight illiteracy and poverty, in addition to strengthening the bulwarks of peace .

He added that it is a powerful element in the dissemination of knowledge, protection and appreciation of academic writing, science and literature.

Therefore, the deputy governor valued the UJES initiative, for contributing to the enrichment of national culture and the development of collective sensitivities.

He explained that in Angola and Huambo, in particular, incentives for books are being implemented, hence the need for everyone to be involved in strengthening these mechanisms.

“We need to promote the culture of reading, writing and book publishing, for a better contribution to sociocultural development and, at the same time, fill national libraries with books by writers and academics from the local square”, he stressed.

In turn, university professor Armindo Jelembi, when delivering the lecture on “Academic Writing”, advised that he called for greater rigor in scientific writing, obeying the strict rules.

The academic encouraged a taste for reading and writing, as bases for the dissemination of more scientific works, with a focus on the well-being of communities.

He said that the lack of printers and publishers constitute the major barriers to the production of academic literature in Huambo province, which lacks the support of the business class and beyond, with the aim of reversing the situation.

Speaking at the event, the rector of the José Eduardo dos Santos University, Virgínia Quartin, informed that the project, linked to the future vision of the institution, is fundamentally based on the integral development of man.

According to the person in charge, the initiative aims to give greater visibility to all young writers, with the talent and resilience necessary for writing a book, a task that requires sacrifice, dedication, discipline, rigor and willpower.

Founded in 2009, UJES, which forms the V Academic Region of the country, encompassing the province of Huambo, has under its supervision the Instituto Superior Politécnico, the faculties of Agricultural Sciences, Law, Economics, Human Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.

In its 14 years of existence, it has so far trained 9,902 staff, of which 9,756 are graduates and 156 are masters in various areas.
