Africa-Press – Angola. Ana Maria de Oliveira, Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, highlighted on Tuesday Angola’s participation in the Franco-Irish Permanent Missions Program (FIMIP), noting that it strengthens the skills of officials from developing countries.
According to a statement from the Permanent Mission of Angola to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Switzerland, the diplomat made these remarks during a ceremony celebrating the completion of Angolan Victor Tchipongue Manuel’s professional internship on the multilateral trading system, negotiation processes, and WTO participation.
De Oliveira acknowledged that vulnerable and least developed countries face challenges, particularly in financial and technical areas. These challenges hinder effective representation in global organizations.
“Angola recognizes the program as a concrete form of assistance and hopes that more Angolans will participate in the future, strengthening the country’s capacities and contributing to sustainable development efforts,” stressed the Angolan ambassador.
Victor Tchipongue Manuel, a senior official from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce who completed the internship, said he intends to apply the skills and knowledge he acquired from the program’s training activities directly and practically.
“My objective is to contribute effectively to strengthening the country’s participation in the WTO by supporting the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and related national institutions on matters of international trade,” he said.
He added that the experience gained will allow him to continue working specifically on matters related to the WTO, ensuring the continuous monitoring of multilateral negotiations, the preparation of notifications, as well as responding to technical requests and fulfilling the commitments made by Angola under multilateral agreements.
Victor Tchipongue Manuel said that he also intends to support the development of national positions, technical analyses and reports, contributing to a more active and informed participation of the country in international forums.
He stated that the objective is to strengthen Angola’s integration into the multilateral trading system and contribute to ensuring that decisions taken internationally can be applied and used effectively in the national context.
The ceremony was presided over by the director of the WTO’s Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation (IFCT/ITTC), Bridget Chilala, and witnessed by representatives of the donor countries of the program, namely, for France, the country’s ambassador in Geneva, Emmanuelle Ivanov-Durant, and for Ireland, its ambassador in the Swiss capital, Noel White.
