Africa-Press – Angola. The head of the Traffic and Road Safety Department (DTSR) in Huíla, chief superintendent, António Franco, advocated in Lubango, the need for motorists and pedestrians to be guided by defensive driving, to prevent accidents and deaths on the roads .
In the first half of this year alone, the National Police in Huíla recorded 86 deaths, 23 more than in the same period before, as a result of 599 road accidents that resulted in 699 injuries.
Speaking in Lubango, on the sidelines of a lecture on “Defensive Driving”, the superior officer considered that society’s lack of guidance on traffic rules has been at the root of many pedestrian accidents.
For the officer, defensive driving is an essential tool for preventing road accidents, which include traffic conditions on the road, from the technical situation of vehicles, as well as weather conditions.
He warned of the need to change the awareness of drivers, so that any accident can be prevented.
In the typicalities of accidents, he argued, excessive speed has been evident, in a great way, being one of the characteristics where it is difficult to apply defensive driving.
He underlined that, compared to the same period of 2022, there was a decrease of 06 deaths, 45 accidents and 130 injuries, whose material damage is yet to be assessed.
