Africa-Press – Angola. Economist António Estote defended the application of a monetary policy that influences the exchange rate through the real economy, instead of reducing the exchange rate administratively or occasionally, in order to avoid the constant rise in the price of foreign currencies and consequent devaluation of the Kwanza – the currency of Angola.

According to the technician, the policy guided by the real economy can generate the concession of more credits to the economy, one of the factors that stimulates the internal production and, in turn, reduces the importation of foodstuffs and the demand for foreign exchange, appreciating the national currency. .

On the other hand, the economist defends the need to abandon the narrative or theory of economic diversification for more concrete/real actions, with a view to increasing national production.

“When it comes to the diversification of the economy, we have to permanently monitor concrete indicators on the level of imports of the main food products, such as rice and chicken, as well as gauge the level of exports of non-oil domestic products, in order to achieve measure whether or not the applied public policies are having the desired effect”, he advised.

The economist presented these positions at the Forum on Economic Growth and Sustainability in Angola, promoted by consultancy firm Efinanças.

The event addressed, among others, “Economic development and sustainability”, “Privatization of public companies”, “The role of public policies” and “The contribution of digital transformation”.

Divided into two panels, the respective themes were guided by economists Rui Malaquias, Euriteca Nunes, António Estote and technology engineer Osvaldo de Jesus, who interacted with an audience that filled the event auditorium.

On the occasion, the director of Efinanças, Euriteca Nunes, said that the objective of the Forum, which is expected to be held every three months of the year, was to reflect on the current economic situation and Angolan sustainability, bringing some solutions that will be submitted to decision makers and public policy makers.

Also an economist by profession, she considered it necessary that the country’s economic and social development process be accompanied by a good environmental policy, to ensure the future of the next generations.

This was the first edition of the Forum on Economic Growth and Sustainability in Angola, promoted by the consulting firm Efinanças.
