Africa-Press – Angola. MPLA member António Nicácio was elected, this Saturday, in Lisbon, first secretary of the party in Portugal, replacing Rosa de Almeida, who held the position for more than 10 years.

The election took place during the ninth ordinary conference to review and renew the party’s mandates in that European country.

António Nicácio obtained more than 90% of the votes, in the election that saw the participation of 150 delegates from various areas of Portugal.

In his first speech, the new first secretary promised to work for the growth and strengthening of party structures in this country.

According to the politician, the MPLA, as the governing party in Angola, has increased responsibilities, which is why it is committed to working harder to gradually improve interaction with the resident Angolan community.

In turn, the secretary of the Political Bureau for organization and insertion in society, Gonçalves Muandumba, considered it essential that new members, elected to management bodies, bring ideas, projects and programs that distinguish them and add values, in order to grow the mass militant.

He highlighted that it is equally important for leaders to know the local Angolan community in terms of number, suitability, occupation, place of residence, average age, their connection with Angola, among others.

“One of the biggest challenges we have is to create programs for young people that are feasible. I highlight the area of ​​agriculture, in its different matrices, which includes farming and agro-industry”, he said, highlighting the importance of youth in contributing to projects.

He pointed out, on the other hand, the fact that the MPLA’s biggest challenge is to “regain the confidence of the electorate”.
