Africa-Press – Angola. Thirteen million kwanzas is the amount of damage caused by the vandalization and theft of electrical cables in Saurimo (Lunda Sul), revealed Sunday, the director of the ENDE Distribution Center, Cristiano Santana.

Cristiano Santana highlighted that the value refers to the current year, and so far 15 thousand meters of electrical cables from the home network and public lighting have been vandalized and looted.

The person responsible said that the neighborhoods with the highest frequency of theft and vandalization are Candembe, Terra Nova, Santo António, Txicumina, all of Saurimo.

Cristiano Santana added, on the other hand, that 2,200 new meters were installed in the municipality of Saurimo, to improve the quality of electricity supply to customers.

The director also made it known that customers owe two billion kwanzas to the National Energy Distribution Company.

“We are carrying out awareness campaigns among the population, to negotiate debts and look at payment methods”, he highlighted.

ENDE controls around 24 thousand customers, of which 20 thousand in the post-paid system and four thousand pre-paid customers benefit from energy from the public network, in the municipality of Saurimo, through two thermal plants in Nhama and Txicumina, with 20 and 19.5 megawatts, respectively.
