Africa-Press – Angola. The Regulatory Entity of Angolan Social Communication (ERCA) is awaiting the approval of its remuneration statute sent six years ago to parliament, informed this Tuesday in Luena, Moxico province, Jorge Ntiamba, member of the Board of Directors of this supervision.
According to the official, who was speaking in the framework of a lecture promoted by ERCA on “Freedom of Expression and other Human Rights”, he said that the institution is struggling with financial problems that limit its actions, in the supervision of the media.
“The ERCA works in an amputated way, supervising the activity only in the country’s capital (…), however, we already sent the remuneration proposal in 2017, we are at the end of the mandate and so far it has not been approved”, he stressed.
He added that currently the ERCA advisers inherited from the extinct National Council of Social Communication, sums that, according to Jorge Ntiamba, are out of line with the socio-economic reality of the country.
The Board of Directors of ERCA was sworn in, in August 2017, during the 10th ordinary plenary meeting of the 5th legislative session of the III Legislature of the National Assembly.
According to Law no 2/17, ERCA has a composition of 11 members, five appointed by the party with a majority in Parliament (MPLA), three by the parliamentary opposition, one by the Executive and two by organizations representing the profession.
In turn, when speaking about “Freedom of Expression and other Human Rights”, journalist Júlio Mendonça appealed to professionals of the class, and other entities present to observe the limits enshrined by law, when exercising this right, with a view to safeguarding the good name and image of other people.
