Africa-Press – Angola. The inauguration, on Tuesday, of the Cuanza-Norte General Hospital “Mário Pinto de Andrade”, by the President of the Republic João Lourenço, is a concrete example of the Executive’s strong commitment to continuing to build a robust health system, reiterated the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta. The official stated that the Executive’s decision to name the health unit after Mário Pinto de Andrade represents a “fair tribute” to the politician, nationalist, convinced patriot, humanist and first sociologist, who addressed issues regarding Angolan and African cultural identity, resistance to colonialism and the fight for freedom.

“We are greatly honoured by the prestigious presence of the family of our honoured doctor Mário Pinto de Andrade and we would like, on this occasion, to salute Mrs. Doctor Henda Ducados Pinto de Andrade, daughter of our hero, certain that with her we will perpetuate the legacy left by her father, in the defence of freedom and the ideals of the country and work towards an increasingly better and more inclusive Angola”, he said.

Sílvia Lutucuta also reaffirmed that the Mário Pinto de Andrade General Hospital is a tertiary hospital, a national and provincial reference, with 200 beds, with a welcoming and humanized environment for users, their families and health professionals, with advanced cutting-edge technology, where medical-surgical services and care and complex examinations can be provided for the first time in this province.

The hospital unit, the minister explained, will be a center dedicated to research, investigation and staff training, and should begin operations with 1,135 professionals, including doctors, nurses, diagnostic and therapeutic technicians, general staff, social workers and hospital support technicians.

The minister also stated that, as part of the process of specializing human resources, to ensure high-quality care, the Medical Internship and Nursing Internship will soon be operational.

The hospital construction work, he recalled, began in December 2021 and was carried out by the company Promed International, part of the Mitrelli Group, with the supervision being awarded to the company IMAISA Consulting. IAPAMA, Médica, TPR, AC-Angola, Smart Power, Engie Plus, Hospitec, Griner, Sócio Marcosal, Arcail-Angola and Carpe Angola also participated as subcontractors, with emphasis on the participation of young Angolans with a professional dimension at all levels, to whom he thanked.

Sílvia Lutucuta also thanked the professionals from the Ministry of Health, from the various specialties and areas who, in a committed manner, traveled to Cuanza-Norte to support the local teams and create the technical and human conditions for the launch of this unit.

He said that intersectorality is a fact in Angola, with active participation from the Ministries of Finance, Energy and Water, Territorial Administration, Construction and Public Works, Defense and Veterans of the Homeland, Ministry of the Interior, Transport, Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Justice and Human Rights, as well as the Provincial Government of Cuanza-Norte.

The minister also emphasized that the hospital is a precious asset that is now available to the entire community and reiterated to health professionals and all those who may use the facility the vehement appeal to preserve the infrastructure for current and future generations, with the same quality that characterizes it today.

The youth, enthusiasm and leadership of Governor João Diogo Gaspar, added Sílvia Lutucuta, demonstrated in the interaction during the preparation of the hospital unit, will be a source of pride and development, so that the province and the hospital provide a better service to the population, without leaving anyone behind.

“In this way, together we will solve the people’s problems with the people,” he concluded.
