FAA reaffirms commitment to the country's stability

Africa-Press – Angola. The Chief of Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces, Altino Carlos José dos Santos, reiterated, Friday, in Luanda, that this institution has strengths and an important role in consolidating democracy and political and social stability in the country.

When speaking at the opening ceremony of the “Commemorative Days in Allusion to the 32nd Anniversary of the Creation of the FAA”, which is celebrated on October 9th of this year, he highlighted that this defense body has a long and glorious history.

This path, said the Aviation general, dates back to the times of the National Liberation Struggle, when Portuguese colonial rule was faced, and the military interventions of other foreign powers that intended to fragment Angola and plunder its riches.

According to Altino dos Santos, since its creation, the FAA has demonstrated high capacity and combative readiness, to overcome any challenges in defending the Nation’s interests, currently constituting the guarantor of national peace and stability.

He explained that the Angolan Armed Forces also act to protect borders, combat terrorism, support needy communities, the environment and the country’s scientific and technological development.

Likewise, he continued, they collaborate in the United Nations and African Union peacekeeping missions in several countries, such as Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and, in the recent past, in Lesotho, bringing humanitarian aid and security to people in need.

The Chief of Staff specified that the corporation he heads is made up of dedicated, competent men and women linked to the country, as a reflection of cultural, ethnic and regional diversity, translating into a symbol of national unity.

“We must continue to redouble vigilance and organization, increase the level of internal control, improve the effectiveness and efficiency of military control in carrying out tasks and missions that are assigned to us from above”, asserted the general.

To this end, he added, one must never lose sight of the legacies of predecessors who gave their precious lives, shed their blood for the benefit of the country, some in active duty and others already retired, mutilated and physically disabled from war.

Altino Carlos José dos Santos expressed his respect and admiration for the FAA and all the military personnel who serve or have served Angola with honor and dignity, so he took the opportunity to pay tribute to those who gave their lives for freedom and sovereignty.

“I want to affirm my commitment to strengthening our defense capabilities and supporting the Armed Forces in order to continue strengthening operational, organizational and technical capacity to guarantee the fulfillment of the noble mission (…..)”, concluded.
