Africa-Press – Angola. Designer Soraya da Piedade considered this Friday, in Luanda, that the Angolan fashion market should be stimulated by the authorities so that it grows and participates more in revenue collection.

In an interview the creator considers it still difficult to work in the Angolan market due to the “huge” deficit in the market for the acquisition of raw materials, currency and high tax rates.

“Purchasing raw materials abroad frequently increases the price of the final product and if the business is not profitable there is no reason for it to exist”, he considers.

The designer emphasizes that in the arts, fashion and cinema are those that “suffer the most and are forgotten”, but that they should be as valued as others, such as music, for example.

In his opinion, the country needs more investment in industries to boost the fashion, accessories and specialized labor sector.

Work stations

With the opening of the new store, there are more than 30 jobs in the Soraya da Piedade group, which comprises three stores, a bespoke studio and a space for private events (Brunch Angola).

The fashion creator, which has several lines such as homeware, made-to-measure bridal, children’s, and even an event area, will open this Saturday (09) the second “FastFashion” store dedicated to ready-to-wear collections.

Soraya da Piedade, graduated in Brazil in Business Management and Fashion Design, is one of the most important and renowned names in Angolan fashion, with several awards won throughout her career. She has also taken the national flag across borders.
