Africa-Press – Angola. Angola filmmaker Blandine Klander appealed on Sunday (26) in Luanda for the need to implement policies that promote festivals, public notices, and training to boost the audiovisual sector in the country.

According to the filmmaker, on the occasion of World Audiovisual Heritage Day, celebrated on Oct 27th, it is essential to develop policies that stimulate cinematographic work in the country.

He also advocated for the promotion of national cinema on Angolan television, mostly in local languages such as Kikongo, Umbundu, and Kimbundu.

He believes that current film and television do not fairly reflect the country’s cultural diversity, as there is a significant gap in cultural identity.

Blandine Klander said that film research in Angola is still weak, and production has been limited, lacking screening spaces, spectators, and support to ensure quality in cinematographic works.

The filmmaker emphasized that the current situation for audiovisual productions in Angola has been marked by many challenges.

He also praised the Cine Zunga project for bringing cinema to communities, thus valuing national cinematography. It has shown 100 open-air cinema sessions in 20 municipalities, with a total of 106,000 spectators.

World Audiovisual Heritage Day is celebrated to raise awareness of the importance of preserving films, radio and television programs, and other audiovisual documents.

The date, established by UNESCO in 2005, highlights the urgent need to protect these records, which are fundamental to the collective memory and cultural identity of nations.
